Legacy of India’s Nightingale: A Poetic Journey

Born in Hyderabad, to a Bengali family,

Indian political activist and a poet was she.

First woman president of INC,

Met in England, got married to Naidu, a doctor,

Inter-cast marriage, ground breaking for society and her.

At tender twelve wrote poems, stories and play,

found her love for writing in many way.

The bazaars of Hyderabad and the golden threshold,

Were few of her works, recognized and told.

Quit India and Satyagrah she was there,

21 months, behind bars but she never did care.

Nightingale of India everyone knew,

with her wings of literature she flew.
